Light pollution is the artificial,
misdirected, misplaced, unshielded
and excessive light which pollutes
area not intended to be lit. This
greatly affects the observational
astronomers and prevents others
viewing dark night sky filled with a
myriad of beautiful stars. Technically
there are three main types of light


pollution, which include – glare, light
trespass and sky glow, in addition to
over illumination. It also involves the
wastage of energy issues, however,
we confines our discussion to the
biological aspects of light pollution.

Light as a pollutant is well situated
in the context of the present

pollution narratives. It is even more
seriously true when one considers
its implications on the ecological
relationships among the structures
of the ecosystem. The critical role of
the natural light in regulating species
interactions has long been studied by
