MAKE LEMONADE BY MMNT DESIGN

Perched on the top floor of an office building just off the
finance and entertainment district of Toronto is women-only
co-working space Make Lemonade. Designers Tyler Malone
and Michael Good of MMNT Design converted the nondescript
site into pastel-coloured office space before dividing it into
three distinct sections. On one side, a collective zone with
extensive greenery and cafe seating is set up to mimic the
feeling of a sunny patio while 24 work desks are stationed in
the other area with an abundance of natural light, with a lively
community kitchen connecting the two.

“The long work desks as well as the informal worktables
with fine maple finish and white powder-coated steel legs
were designed by our team and fabricated by the local
handcraft studio Son of a Woodcutter. The bench seating
at the artificial grass lounge area and the reception desk,
on the other hand, were made by GTA Construction. Most

other materials such as decorative metal panels, hex tiles
and assorted pieces of furniture were sourced from various
local Toronto suppliers. The collaborative spirit behind the
endeavour was to create a unique revitalised environment,”
says Malone.

Not stopping there, Make Lemonade enlisted Toronto-based
artist Quinn Rockliff to create animated murals throughout the
space. This expressive DNA that is splashed all over the matte
white walls is accentuated with refinished concrete flooring
and rhythmic window fenestrations. A take on the theme of
composed eccentricity, the duality of the elements is intended
to inspire creativity and spark joy among the community
without discounting the more serious aspects of business that
allows real work to be done.
