The Society of Women Artists
The Society of Women Artists (SWA) invites entries
to its 158th annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries,
London, from 24 to 29 September. Prizes include the
£2,000 Special Fine Art Award. Online entry is open
now, until 20 June, with a handing-in day of 27 July.

Pursuit of likeness
Coinciding with the annual
Royal Society of Portrait
Painters’ exhibition at the Mall
Galleries, London, 9 to 24 May,
painter, Michael Taylor and
photographer, Alistair
Morrison, will be in
conversation in Painting,
Photography and the Pursuit
of Likenessin the main gallery
on 21 May, 6.30 to 8pm. The
discussion will focus on their
collaborative project in which
Michael painted Alistair and
Alistair photographed Michael,
followed by a Q and A session.

n Surrey Arts Open Studios
Perhaps the largest open studio event to
date, the Surrey Artists Open Studios
(SAOS) will see 300 artists across 182
venues opening their doors to visitors,
between 1 and 16 June. At the launch
weekend on 1 and 2 June, there will be
an opportunity to take part in creative
workshops, view demonstrations, buy
artwork and take part in the popular
prize draw. Look out for potter, Terry
O’Brien and painter Jackie Cowdrey who
will showing their work at Corner
Cottage, Abinger Lane, Abinger
Common, Dorking, Surrey RH5 6JH. Pot
and Paintwill feature a range of Terry’s
thrown and hand-built pots and Jackie’s
paintings and drawings on a wide range
of subjects. The gallery is open on
Saturdays and Sundays, 11am until 5pm,
as well as Thursdays 6 and 13 June,
11am to 5pm and 6 to 8.30pm. Teas,
coffees and cakes will be served, with
proceeds to The Royal Marsden Hospital.

n Stroud Open Studios
More than 80 artists will be taking part
in the Stroud Open Studios, held on two
weekends in May – 11 and 12 and 18
and 19. Look out for Leisure Painter
contributor, Jackie Garner, who is
currently writing a series for Leisure
Painter. Jackie’s home at Old Cider
House, Humphreys End, Randwick,
Stroud, Gloucestershire GL6 6EW will be

Artists’ studios in Crickhowell, Powys
and the surrounding area, will open
their doors for the annual Crickhowell
Open Studios Art Trail on the May spring
bank holiday weekend, 15 to 27 May.
As part of the event, members of the
Torfaen Art Factory will be exhibiting
their work at the Clarence Hall,
Crickhowell in Torfaen Art Factory: An
Artist’s Look at Life, 10am to 5pm daily.

n Digswell Arts Trust’s
Open Studios
The Digswell Arts Trust is a thriving art
community with two sites – in Welwyn
Garden City and Letchworth – that
fosters emerging talents by providing
affordable studio space. Thirty of its
