This elegant outdoor shower by Belgian

architect Hans Verstuyft got us thinking

about what else we might need for a

spot of sun-soaked loaing. Hair often

gets forgotten, but OWay, a new Italian

botanical hair brand, is providing us with

many new favourite staples, including

its Sun Protective Elixir. There’s also the

detergent-free New Wash by Hairstory,

Davines’ replenishing Su Hair Mask,

and Frédéric Malle’s hair mist, newly

available in cult scent Portrait of a Lady.

BORN AGAIN

In 1955, Brazilian designer Sergio Rodrigues

opened his inluential store Oca in Rio de Janeiro,

stocking pieces by local designers, including

Rodrigues’ own works. Rodrigues designed these

planters speciically for his store, and their simple

forms (cast in concrete with a steel base) show

his ability to reinterpret traditional Brazilian

design with contemporary lair. The planters have

now been reissued in three sizes by Matter Made

in ibreglass, the only modern concession to

what is otherwise a fully faithful reproduction.

When one of our Handmade projects gets a new

lease of life, it really loats our boat. The ‘Passage of

Wood’ folly, created by Swedish architects In Praise

of Shadows, Danish wood specialists Dinesen, Austrian

craft association Werkraum Bregenzerwald and

carpenter Oliver Beer for Handmade 2014, has been

reimagined as a serene retreat for kayaking, nestled

on a clif by the Stockholm archipelago, about an hour’s

drive south of the city. The retreat’s shape resembles

that of a boat, say IPOS partners Katarina Lundeberg

and Fredric Benesch, so it was a perfect match for

a client’s brief for a holiday cabin to house 6m-long

kayaks. The HeartOak and Douglas Fir structure, which

was extended by seven metres, now even allows space

for sleepovers, thanks to a clever rearrangement of its

timber parts, and sits raised on eight concrete plinths

to avoid disturbing the existing natural landscape.
