How to stop
recording

Stop recording
When recording your screen, click ‘Stop’
in your Mac’s menu bar to end the recording.
A thumbnail of the recording will then appear in
the lower-right corner. Click on it.

Edit and share
When the footage is displayed in a
window, you can stream it to an AirPlay device,
share it, or click on the edit icon in the top-right
corner to trim the footage to make basic edits.
Step-by-step Using the screenshot utility

Access the utility
While in Finder (click on your desktop),
press the Cmd+Shift+5 shortcut to bring up
the Catalina screenshot utility consisting of a
row of icons at the bottom of the screen.

Record your screen
You can also click the respective icon to
record the entire screen or a selected portion
of it. Click on ‘Record Entire Screen’ and then
click ‘Options’.

Capture screen
You can click on the first icon to capture
the entire screen or the second icon to capture
a selected window. For the latter option, click
on the open window you want to capture.

Tweak record options
Here you can set a timer, if you need
to quickly prep your desktop and select a
microphone, which is handy if you want to add
voice-overs to your footage.

Capture a selection
If you click on the third option you’ll be
able to capture a selected portion of the
screen. For this option you can drag the
corners of the onscreen reticle to suit.

Start recording
With the ‘Record Entire Screen’ icon
highlight, move your cursor onto your desktop
and the pointer will change to a camera icon.
Click to start recording.
