a virtualgrouponFacebookaroundtwo

andhalfyearsagoknittingforpremature

babiesata localmaternityhospital,Jessops,in

Sheeld.Fastforwardtwoyearsandthegroup

hasnowgrowntoa totalofover 20 knitting

groups!Betweenthemall,thegroupscurrently

knitfor 12 hospitalsand 13 charitiesandintotal

thereareover 190 knitters,themajoritybeing

localtotheregionofBarnsley.Thesededicated

groupsfeaturea diverserangeofknittersatall

levels,includingexpatswhoknitandsendknitting

backtotheirhomecountry.SheryllDixon,who

helpsco-ordinatethegroups,receivesupto 200

itemsa weekwhicharethenwashed,sortedand

postedtothevarioushospitalsandcharities.Her

hardworkhasbeenrecognised,withthreearticles

aboutherknittingpublishedinlocalpaperthe

BarnsleyChronicle, andshehasrecentlywonthe

ProudofBarnsleyvolunteeroftheyear award.

GROWINGINSTRENGTH

patientsandtoknitfornewborncharityEmily’s

Star who provide a box to parents of babies

whoweigha delicate3lb,4lbor5lbatbirth.The

knittersenjoyusinga varietyofyarnsbyJamesC.

patternsarebymariannaslazydaisydays.blogspot.

com.Thegroupisgrowinginstrength,andinthe

lastsixmonths,thankstolocalgrants,overan

incredible6,000itemshave been donated. They
