(^) See Cats
Back to the Heaviside Layer.
In theaters.
The trailer is just about the grisliest thing I’ve ever
seen, but this adaptation of the game-changing
Andrew Lloyd Webber musical (from T. S. Eliot,
who would not have been pleased) starring Taylor
Swift, James Corden, Judi Dench, and a lot of stars
yowling under tufts of colored fur could be a camp
classic. Or maybe even fun. david edelstein
TV
(^) Watch You Season Two
After Beck.
Netflix, December 26.
Unwind after the holidays by watching Penn
Badgley’s stalker–serial killer build a new, no
doubt creepy life for himself in L.A. Once on Life-
time, Yo u is now an original series on Netflix,
which is probably where you discovered it origi-
nally anyway. jen chaney
THEATER
(^) See To o t s i e
You don’t have to wear that dress tonight.
Marquis Theatre, through January 5.
If you haven’t seen Santino Fontana’s Tony
Award–winning performance as Michael Dorsey,
the (ahem) titular Tootsie, you can still catch him
before the heels come off for good. Sure, only in
candyland Broadway fantasy would a man dress
as a woman to make his acting life easier—you
have to paint your glasses with thick rose-colored
paint to see it—but losing yourself in the dream of
such a world seems like a very just-after- Christmas
thing to do. The cast is tippity-top, Lilli Cooper
and Sarah Stiles are both singing their heads off,
and Robert Horn’s Tony-winning book is so jam-
packed with jokes you’ll have material to entertain
your visiting family with for days. helen shaw
ART
(^) See Jordy Ker w ick
Beautifully bizarre.
Anna Zorina Gallery, 532 West 24th Street,
through January 18.
This gallery right in the belly of the Chelsea beast
deserves more attention. Currently there are the
oddities of painter Jordy Kerwick, who gives us
strange still-lifes of flowers in vases that sit on art
books. Your eye zooms in on the florals, the text on
book jackets, then gets completely bombarded by
the vibrant color, primitive but wonderful touch,
and collaged bits. jerry saltz
POP MUSIC
(^) See Ya si i n Bey
An anniversary show.
Sony Hall, December 29.
Brooklyn hip-hop veteran Yasiin Bey, formerly
known as Mos Def of Black Star, continues the
celebration of the 20th anniversary of his sophis-
ticated 1999 debut solo album, Black on Both
Sides, after a sold out November gig drew rave
reviews. Witness the enigmatic MC’s airtight bars
and melodies across time-tested rhyme workouts
like “Mathematics” and contemplative tunes like
“Umi Says,” and cross your fingers for a dusting of
new music. craig jenkins
