We wanted to try something new, and with Ingrid’s help we’re
dying to test the Messy Mat for ourselves
Tried & tested
Dovecraft’s Messy Mat
1 You can apply your dye water-
based ink directly onto the
mat without worrying about it
getting stained.
HOW TO:
get to grips with the
mediums you can easily
use on the Messy Mat
2 Ink smooshing can be fun
and the mat will clean up very
easily with a mist of a water
and a swoop of a dry cloth.
3 The mat is heat proof so you
can dry your project on top of
it whilst it protects your desk.
4 You can work with the
messiest of media and
simply wipe it clean with
water when done.
5 Crafting with a hot-glue gun
is a dream, because it easily
peels off when cooled down.
6 Paint can be a tough to clean
up. The easiest thing to do is
to let it dry and use a packing
tape to lift the paint and
clean with water and a cloth.
P
eople often ask me a lot
about what a beginner
crafter should have to
start crafting and I always
mention a craft mat as well
as a few other essentials to
get them going. There are so
many stamps and dies and
machines we all ‘need’ and
often omit the basics tools
that make our crafting easier.
I say, a good craft mat is a
necessity and your furniture
will thank you for it. I have
tested many over the years
and I tend to keep my large
tempered glass mat on my
desk permanently, but it can be
tedious to clean off paint and
other messy mediums and this
is when the Messy Mat comes
in very handy. You simply don’t
need to worry about it and
enjoy the process instead.
The mat has a sturdy mesh
core and is covered with a
silicone coating on both sides.
It has a neat and simple design
so will suit any craft room. It is
exible so it is easy to roll it up
and put in a drawer when not
in use. Call me pedantic, but I
cannot stand the wrinkles and
bent corners on those Te on
mats. Once this happens, they
don’t stay at and need to be
taped down to your desk. I
don’t nd this to be an issue
with the Messy Mat at all! It
stays nice and at and it is
one less thing to worry about
when crafting. It is very
reasonably priced too!
Dovecraft claims on the
packaging that it is heat proof
and easily cleaned – and so,
I put it to the real test by
