orcopiedtotheclipboard,clickthepointwhereyouwantthe
pastedsoundtostart,thenright-clickandchoosePaste.^1

Tosavea sectionasa newsoundfile,highlightit,^1 then
right-clickandchooseSaveSelectedAs.Thisoptionis
alsoavailableontheFilemenu.^2 Once you’ve carried
out some editing work, you can also export the entire track to a
new file. Make sure nothing is selected and choose Save As
instead.

Youcanmakethestartandendofyouraudiofile
smootherbyusingtheFadeIn andFadeOuttools.Use
theselectiontoolstomarktheareayouwanttogradually
fadein orout,^1 thenclicktheappropriatebutton.^2 The
waves will adjust in response, increasing or decreasing the
volume in a cone shape.

We can’t imagine many times when you’d need to reverse
theaudioofa file,excepttohavefunwithsoundsyou’ve
recorded,butWaveEditorcanreversetheentirefileat
theclickofa button^1 (actually, it makes for a great quiz
question!). However, you can’t do this to a selection – it’s all or
nothing – unless you cut sections to another file.

TheNormalisationandAmplifyoptionscanonlybe
appliedtotheentiretrack.Normalisation^1 smooths
outvariationsin volumebybringingthepeaksand
troughsclosertogether.If youjustwantthewholetracklouder
orquieter,useAmplify(Increase)^2 andAmplify(Decrease)^3
instead.

There are times when you may want to add a period of
silence to your audio files – at the beginning or end, for
example, or if your track needs to drop out to
accommodatea voiceover.Todothis,clicktheplacewhere you
wantthesilencetoappear,thenclicktheInsertSilencebutton.
(^1) The time is in milliseconds, so 500 (^2) is half a second.
