leafalongyourtraced line, using a sharp
pairofscissors.

PIECINGTHEQUILTTOP

Arrangethe50inx 6in strips,
alternatingbetweenthewhiteand
colouredstrips.Takethefirsttwostrips
andplacerightsidestogether.Sewfrom
thecentreofthelongedge,downtothe
bottom.Thengobackandsewtheother
sidefromthecentreout,overlapping your
stitches in the centre (Fig 1).

Repeatstep6, sewingthestrips
togetherin pairs.Thensewthepairs
together,untilallstripshavebeensewn
(Fig2).If usingdirectionalprints,ensure
thateach print is facing the right way up.

Peelthepaperbackingoffyourleaf
shapesandplaceacrossthequilttop,
referringtothephotographyfor
placement.Pinandthenfusein place,
following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Usea coordinatingthreadanda
free-motionmachinefoottorawedge
appliquéeachleafshapeintoplace.It may
helptosetyourmachineat a slower speed
toachievea neatfinish.

QUILTINGANDFINISHING

Cutthebackingfabricin halfacross

seam.Press the seam open.

Pressthequilttopandbackingwell.

Makea quiltsandwichbyplacingthe

backingfabricrightsidedown,thebatting

on top, then place the quilt top centrally

andrightsideup.Bastethelayers

together using your preferred method.

Quiltasdesired.Lornaquiltedstraight

lineshorizontallyacrosseachrow,

usingcoordinatingthreads.Trimoffthe

excessbattingandbacking fabric and

squareup the quilt.

Sewthebindingstripstogether

end-to-endusingdiagonalseams.

Presstheseamsopenandtrimawaythe

dogears.Foldin halflengthways, wrong

sidestogether, and press.

Sewthebindingtotherightsideof

thequilt,creatinga neatmitreat each

corner.Foldthebindingovertotheback

ofthequiltandsecurein placetemporarily

withpinsorbinding clips. Hand stitch in

place to finish.
