Notre Dame

Cathy
READER PANEL

I love the history
of this cathedral. The
beading and metallic
thread offer an alluring
charm. The lifelike
details of this piece
are special, doing
justice in keeping alive
the memory of Notre
Dame before the
tragedy of the fire.

French knots appear as dots on your
chart. To work a French knot, bring the
needle up through the fabric, hold the
thread down with your left hand and wind
the thread round the needle twice. Still
holding the thread taut, take the needle
down close by – one thread or part of a
block away. Pull through until a neat knot
is formed. Be gentle when you’re pulling

the thread through as you could tighten it too much and lose the

knotted effect. Try stitching using more strands together in the needle

for a ‘fatter’ result if your French knot is too small. If you struggle with

French knots then try using seed beads instead.
