Red squirrel
There are few animals in the UK that
have the cheekiness and charm of
British red squirrels. They’re at their
most photogenic in winter when they’re
in their full winter coats, with long ear
tufts that make them look even more
adorable. They also really pop out of
a snowy landscape at this time of year,
but due to declining numbers you can
only see them in certain parts of the UK.
PRO ADVICE
Continuous autofocus
With subjects as sprightly and
unpredictable as squirrels, you’ll want
to be using your camera’s continuous
autofocus mode, so that you can
continually readjust the focus – as
long as you’re half-pressing the shutter- with the active AF point placed over
your squirrel. This means if they do
move, the focus will automatically
adjust so that they come out sharp.
