Referring to Diagram 2, lay out

large triangle-squares, solid

turquoise 5" squares, and assorted

brown print 5" squares in four rows.

Sew together pieces in rows; join

rows to make a star block. The block

should be 18^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam

allowances.

Referring to Diagram 3, sew

solid turquoise 4× 18 1 ⁄ 2 " strips to

opposite edges of block. Join solid

turquoise 4× 25 1 ⁄ 2 " strips to remaining

edges to make quilt center. The

quilt center should be 25^1 ⁄ 2 " square

including seam allowances.

ASSEMBLE BORDER

AND CORNER UNITS

Use a pencil to mark a diagonal

line on one side of each solid

turquoise 3^3 ⁄ 8 " square.

Layer a marked solid turquoise

square atop an assorted print 3^3 ⁄ 8 "

square. Sew together with two seams,

stitching^1 ⁄ 4 " on each side of drawn line

(Diagram 4). Cut pair apart on drawn

line; press open to make two small

triangle-squares. Each triangle-square

should be 3" square including seam

allowances. Repeat to make 200 small

triangle-squares total.

Referring to Diagram 5, sew

together four small triangle-

squares in pairs. Join pairs to make a

border unit. The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 "

square including seam allowances.

Repeat to make 48 border units total.

Referring to Diagram 6, sew

together a small triangle-square

and a solid turquoise 3" square. Add

a solid turquoise 3× 5 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangle to

make a corner unit. The unit should be

5 1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam allowances.

Repeat to make eight corner units

total.

ASSEMBLE AND ADD INNER BORDER

Referring to Diagram 7, lay out

10 border units in two rows. Sew

together units in rows to make two

short inner border strips. Each strip

should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 × 25 1 ⁄ 2 " including seam

allowances.

Referring to Diagram 8, lay out

10 border units and four corner

units in two rows. Sew together units

in rows to make two long inner border

strips. Each strip should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 × 35 1 ⁄ 2 "

including seam allowances.
