Morbid Stuff
PUP
The Canadian punk rockers are back with
their third album, which features a brand
new sound. Several mellow tracks amid the
band’s usual high-octane rock show a softer
side, as they explore mental health problems
and the curious case of being able to profit
from them with their music.
FIVE FACTS:
- PUP (an abbreviation of Pathetic Use of
Potential) was formed in Toronto in 2010,
under the name Topanga. - The name Topanga was inspired by a
character from Disney’s 1980s sitcom Boy
Meets World. When Disney launched a spin-
off series, the band decided their sound
wasn’t right for this tenuous link any longer. - Their second album, The Dream Is Over,
was inspired by lead-singer Stefan Babcock
being told he he’d never sing again after
severely damaging his vocal chords. - Actor Finn Wolfhard starred in PUP’s
2014 video for “Guilt Trip”, taken from their
2013 self-titled debut album. - “Reservoir”, which also appears on
the band’s first album, featured on the
soundtrack for Ubisoft’s 2016 video game
Watch Dogs 2.
