Fabinho models this replica version of the Liverpool jersey for the 1984
European Cup final, when the Reds beat Roma on penalties in their
own stadium. It has the white-and-red V-neck from the era, those
trademark pinstripes and the occasion embroidered around the club
crest – what’s not to love?
The shirt evokes memories of skipper Graeme Souness lifting the
trophy, all eleven kilos of it, with one arm into the warm Roman night-
sky while pointing to the Liverpool fans with his free hand.
“We were winning everything, we looked like winning everything,”
he reflected when his playing days were over. “We knew at the start of
each season, when we were photographed along with the trophies,
that there was a fair chance they were going to be in the same picture
the following year.”
