Feel free to experiment with different CCTV and surveillance camera looks by
modifying different effect properties in the View Inspector.

Step-by-step Mimic CCTV and military drone footage

1

Import clips
Choose File>New and select Event. Label
it ‘Video Effects’. Choose File>Import>Media.
Browse to select our two clips. Click ‘Import
Selected’. Add CCTV_start to the timeline.

2

Security camera effect
In the Effects browser go to Nostalgia
and drag the Security effect onto the timeline’s
clip. In the Video Inspector’s Security panel
customise the date and the camera’s label.

3

Add water to lens
Drag Water Pane onto the clip to add
streaks of rain to the camera lens. In Inspector
drag the Water Pane effect above the Security
layer to avoid ‘wetting’ the onscreen text.

4

Modify properties
To create a colour CCTV feed go to
Security and drag the Saturation slider to 1.0.
A Vignette value of 30 will darken the edges to
mimic the look of a cheap CCTV lens.

7

Degrade the signal
Go to the Stylize section of Effects. Drag
Bad TV onto the second timeline clip. This
causes the picture to degrade and flicker. Set
Static Type to TV Static.

5

Add Night Vision effect
Drag the Drone_start clip to the timeline.
From the Effects browser’s Looks section drag
Night Vision onto the clip. By default this adds
a binocular shaped overlay to the footage.

8

Create multiple screens
Press Ctrl/Cmd+5 to summon the
Transitions browser. Go to the Replicator/
Clones section. Drag the Clone Spin transition
between the two clips. Click ‘Create Transition’.

6

Add overlay
Go to the Night Vision panel in the Video
Inspector. Set the Scope dropdown to None to
lose the binoculars. Set the Overlay dropdown
to Overlay 2 for a military drone style display.

9

Enhance with audio
To add security camera sound effects go
to Sound Effects. From the MechTech folder
drag Servo 4 under the first clip. Drag Radio
Aircraft Garble under the drone clip.
