Cross Stitch Gold - UK (2020-03)

(Antfer) #1

“I love the pared-back, pure style of Lesley’s design. There are some

large areas of colour and the piece uses whole stitches mostly, with

just a few fractionals and a bit of backstitch to define the mother and

baby. Simply stunning.” Fiona Baker, Technical Editor

How to attach the beads
To attach the seed beads to the mother’s
dress, you will need a long, thin beading
needle and stranded cotton in the same
shade as the stitches underneath the beads.
Thread the needle with two strands of
cotton and bring the needle up where the
bead placement is shown on the chart.
Thread on a bead, then take the needle
back down, close to where it came up but
not in the same hole. Secure the thread at
the back and move on to the next bead.

All is calm
I’ve really tried to
capture a contented
expression on the faces
of the mother and her
baby as they cosy up
together. Facial details
can be tricky, so take
your time over them
and refer to both the
chart and the stitched
design for reference.

In the shade
These trailing blooms add
detail to the top right-hand
corner, helping to balance
the design. The mother has
found a peaceful spot under
this shady tree, keeping her
baby safely out of the sun as
it casts a beautiful dappled
light on the leaves.
