Discovery Tours
CZECH REPUBLIC
Discover the legacy of Kepler and Brahe with astronomy, maths,
music and art in the city of a hundred spires. Our tour with
author and broadcaster Jane Green will journey to the heart
of early science and Prague’s medieval marvels, including the
world’s oldest astronomical clock.
“I’m excited to walk in the hallowed footsteps of Johannes
Kepler and Tycho Brahe, the former a supremo mathematician,
the latter a superb observer. How thrilling to visit the beautiful
Benatky Castle where Tycho and his team lived life to the full
and recorded stunning astronomical events, and where the
planet Mars was meticulously observed, the data ultimately
leading Johannes to formulate his famous three laws of
planetary motion. What an opportunity to admire, up close,
their astronomical instruments in the National Technical
Museum.” Jane Green

Spring departures:
ITALY
Encounter the great scientific minds and discoveries of the
Renaissance on a cultural adventure across the pre-eminent
cities of science, Florence and Bologna. Led by art and
architecture expert Andrew Spira and accompanied by
scientific historian Professor David Wootton.
“We will be seeing Galileo’s telescope, the most
important scientific instrument ever devised.
It destroyed the astronomical system inherited
from the Greeks and Romans and opened the
way to the eventual triumph of Copernicanism.
In Florence, Galileo wrote his Dialogue Concerning
the Two Chief World Systems, which led to his
condemnation for heresy, and his Two New
Sciences, which prepared the ground for Newton’s
physics. Galileo, more than any other individual,
brought about the transition from Aristotelian to
modern science.” David Wootton
