Ex: This is commonly seen in yeast and certain bacteria. Ethyl alcohol is excreted in micro-organism.
Accumulation of alcohol beyond certain limit can, however, kill the micro-organism. Yeast poison
themselves to death when the concentration of alcohol reaches about 13%.
Therefore maximum concentration of alcohol in beverages that are naturally fermented is 10%. A higher
concentration of alcohol in a beverage is achieved through distillation.
Energy yield in Anaerobic respiration is less than 7% of energy present in glucose. The net gain of
ATP is 2 ATP molecules in anaerobic respiration. Lactic acid formed in muscle cells passes into blood
stream. In liver it is transformed into glucose while in heart tissues it is changed to pyruvate and
recycled in aerobic respiration.
