You never know what might inspire a new photographer. At the last walk, we did our best: we
invited a nearby moto taxi driver to take the group picture for us. He was a bit surprised and
overwhelmed by the camera, but you’ll see from the group photo (overleaf) that he served us
well! In honor of his efforts, we have included a special section with portraits of moto taxi drivers
taken by various photographers throughout the walk. Head to page 42 to check them out.
Bangkok Photographers Group’s 105th walk looped 42 photographers through a route in the
neighbourhoods near the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, ending with the Sunday
morning chaos of the Khlong Toei Market. An apt route, perhaps, given that August is the month
of the Queen Mother’s birthday. As is almost universally true in Bangkok, the route Mark selected
for us was a visual feast. The included photographs demonstrate that.
Remarkably, of the 42 photographers who attended the walk, 39 went on to submit images
to the magazine. That is an extremely high submission rate, by BPG’s standards, resulting in the
longest issue of Bangkok Photo Walks that the new leadership team has yet published.
There are many great pictures that didn’t make it into the magazine; it’s fun and challenging to
choose what to include! You’ll probably see some of those other excellent photos posted on the
BPG Facebook page in the week following the magazine reveal.
We walked with first-timers and old friends, including at least one long-time member who
made a special trip back to Thailand from Singapore to walk with us. That’s one of the best things
about BPG: there are people who continue to be connected long after they leave Bangkok,
and new people are welcomed regularly. All of us care about improving our photography, and
appreciate the positive help we get from each other.
Thanks to all who joined us on the walk and contributed their photography for this issue.
Have fun,
Greg, Ben and Mark.
