Whenwastheclubfounded?

EnfieldCameraClubwasformedin 1950.It

is affiliatedtoThePhotographicAllianceof

GreatBritainthroughtheEastAnglian

Federation(EAF).Thetransitionfrom

traditionalmethodstodigitalwashelpedby

a NationalLotteryAwardsForAllgrantof

£3,000,whichledtotheclubbuyinga

digitalprojector,laptop,software,projection

screen,protectivecasesandothersundry

equipment.Clubmembersnowrangefrom

beginnerstotheveryadvancedand

experienced,severalof whomhavebeen

withtheclubforover 25 years.

Whatdoesyourcluboffertonewmembers?

Newmembersareimmediatelywelcomedwith

typicalintroductoryconversationsrangingfrom

cameraownershiptosoftwareused,would

theybecomingtothepubafterwards,etc.We

attempt to stick to the tried-and-trusted

programmeof guestpresentations,interspersed

withdigitalandprintcompetitions.Forthese,no

distinctionis madebetweentraditionalordigital

methodsof photography(althoughclearlythe

formerformatseemstobedisappearing with

thepassingof oldermembers).

Describea typicalclubmeeting.

Generalset-upoccursbetween7.40pmand

7.55pm.Themeetingsbeginwithclub

announcements,includingtheall-important

teaandcoffeetallies!A teabreaktakesplace

around8.50pmandat theendof

proceedings,interestedpartiesautomatically

headnextdoorfor‘lightrefreshments’.

Doyouinviteguestspeakers?

Yes,thisbeingfacilitatedthroughreferralto

theEAFrecommendedlistsforbothguest

speakersandjudges.Weaimfora wide

rangeof formatsandpersonalitiesandit

becomesquiteevident which ones we would

liketoinviteback!

Ourannualexhibitionis heldeveryNovember

in thegalleryof theDugdaleCentre,Enfield

(www.dugdalecentre.co.uk).Asidefromthat,

theclubcompetesin localcompetitionsona

regularbasis,suchasthelocalannual

8-WayBattle,theLoughtonAnniversary

Trophy,theBasildonTrophy,theCameraCraft

Cup,theBarnetandFinchleyPhotographic

SocietyannualJubileeCup.Wealso

participatein theannualEAF Inter-Club PDI

andprintchampionships.

Oneanecdotethatcertainlyspringstomind

concernsa DPIcompetitioneveningwhen

afterhalfanhourorsothememberrunning

thelaptop/projectorrigmadea costly

mistakebyacceptinga Windows 10 software

updaterequest.Aftersomedelay,withthe

updatestillin progress,it wasagreedto

abandontheevening’sproceedings, with

mucheggonfaces.

Whataretheclub’sgoalsforthefuture?

Theenvironmentforclubsis certainly

challengingandit is quitedifficulttoattract

youngermembers,althoughwehavereached

outviathemanysocialmediaplatforms.We

haveaccountsacrosstheboard,namely

Facebook(EnfieldCameraClub,www.facebook.

com/groups/10883151336/),Twitter

(@enfieldclub),Instagram,tumblr,Pinterest

(allenfieldcameraclub)andSnapchat

(enfieldcameracl).Wearealsoexamining

alternativeideasforclubevenings,andalthough

theregularadvicesessionsaremostwelcome,

weneedtogotheextramiletofindthat

specialsomethingtoattractyoungermembers.
