GP RACING MARCH 2020 135

YOUR GUIDETO AMSTERDAM
After a break of 3 years the 'utch *rand 3rix
makes its muchanticipated return to the Formula 1
calendar. It will take place at its traditional home
of Zandvoort and, as thefi rst European grandprix
of the year, it’s sure to be one of the most popular
races of the season.
That popularity will be a factor of both novelty and
the presence of a certain 'utch driver. Red %ull’s
Max Verstappen has attracted an army offans who
have turned grandstands around the world into a sea
of orange shirts. Their faith in Verstappen hasbeen
repaid astheir favourite driver has pulled off some
of the most spectacular overtaking manoeuvres of
recent seasons.
&ircuit =andvoort is located within a landscape
of spectacular rolling sand dunes north ofthe town
=andvoort, on the 1orth 6ea coast. =andvoort isa
popular beach resort but the maMority of spectators
choose to stay in Amsterdam, Must over 20 miles
away. Amsterdam is famous for its culture, canals,
monuments and museums, and is our chosen location
when travellingto Zandvoort for the Dutch GP.
Amsterdam has no shortage of museums and
places of historic interest, for thosewho want to
experience some of the city’s rich heritage. One ofthe
most famous attractions in the city isthe Van Gogh

Museum, dedicated to the work of one of thewor ld’s
most influential artists. It hosts thelarges t collection
of the painter’s work anywhere inthe world. /ocated
in Museum 6quare, it attracted over 2.3 million
visitors last year.
On a more sobering notethere is also Anne
Frank House, a biographical museum dedicated
to Jewishwartime diarist Anne Frank. This can be
found on Prinsengracht, close to the Westerkerk,
in central Amsterdam.
The canals, originally dug in the 17th century, are
a quintessentialfeature of Amsterdam and are now
UNESCOprotected. Floating alongthe waterways on
one of the many boat tours available is a perfect way
to experience some ofthe city’s attractions.
Amsterdam is also rated as thesecond most bike
friendly city in the world, with around 320 miles of
dedicated cycle lanes. %icycles arethe chosen form of
transport for many thousands of commuters – and
probably the most authentic way toexperience what
the city has to offer.
The city comes alive in theevening, with a genre
of music for all tastes. Dutch DJs are among some
of the best inthe wor ld, but whether you want to
dance the night away or just visit one of the many
bars or pubs the city has to offer, Amsterdam has
something forever yone.
