2020 SEASON PREVIEW
Los Angeles Galaxy
2019 SEASON: 16-3-15, 51 points (Fifth in
the West, Conference Semifinalist)
KEY ADDITIONS: Chicharito (Sevilla),
Danilo Acosta (Real Salt Lake), Emiliano
Insua (Stuttgart), Sacha Kljestan (Orlando)
DEPARTURES: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC
Milan), Dave Romney (Nashville), Chris
Pontius (Retired)
While Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to bring any
silverware to the Galaxy, he certainly helped
raise the profile of the club and entertained
the masses during his time in MLS. The
team has quickly moved on from the Swede
though, signing Mexico international Javier
Hernandez, who had been sought by MLS
clubs for years. The Galaxy are a star-
studded and deep team who have a real
opportunity this season to win an historic
sixth MLS Cup.
Los Angeles FC
2019 SEASON: 21-9-4, 72 points (First in the
West, Conference Finalist)
KEY ADDITIONS: Jose Cifuentes (Uni.
Catolica), Francisco Ginella (Wanderers)
DEPARTURES: Walker Zimmerman
(Nashville), Lee Nguyen (New England)
Last year's Supporters' Shield winners were
eliminated in the Western Conference final
by the Seattle Sounders in heart-breaking
fashion. They return with almost the same
squad that dominated the league
last season and have a little
more experience to bank on.
Much like their cross-town
rivals, expect LAFC to make a
ton of noise in 2020.
Minnesota United
2019 SEASON: 15-8-11, 53 points (Fourth in
the West, Eliminated first round)
KEY ADDITIONS: Tyler Miller (Los Angeles
FC), Greg Ranjitsingh (Orlando)
DEPARTURES: Bobby Shuttleworth
(Chicago), Angelo Rodriguez (Deportivo
Cali)
Minnesota United squeaked into the
playoffs for the first time in franchise
history last season and are desperately
hoping to get back to the dance this year.
It will be difficult in an improved Western
Conference, though, and they will be in
a dogfight to qualify for the postseason
throughout the 2020 campaign.
Nashville SC
2019 SEASON: 20-7-7, 67 points (Second
in USL Eastern Conference, Conference
Semifinalist)
KEY ADDITIONS: Hany Mukhtar (Brondby),
Walker Zimmerman (LAFC), Anibal Godoy
(San Jose), David Accam (Columbus)
DEPARTURES: Brandon Vazquez
(Cincinnati), Zarek Valentin (Houston)
The expansion team enters the league
amidst much drama surrounding their
proposed new soccer-specific stadium.
However, fans should be more concerned
with the product being put on the pitch at
the moment as they will struggle mightily
in their first season of MLS play and could
finish dead last in the standings if they
aren't careful.
Javier Hernandez
has made it clear he
didn't join the Galaxy
to replace Zlatan
Ibrahimovic – he
came to win trophies
Bob Bradley led his
team to a Supporters'
Shield in 2019, but he
will not be satisfied until
his side win the league's
most prestigious prize
