2020 SEASON PREVIEW
GOLDEN 25TH. 2020 MLS
SEASON PREVIEW
Seattle Sounders
2019 SEASON: 16-8-10, 56 points (Second
in the West, MLS Cup Champions)
KEY ADDITIONS: Yeimer Gomez Andrade
(CA Union), Shane O’Neill (Orlando), Joao
Paulo (Botafogo)
DEPARTURES: Victor Rodriguez (Elche),
Roman Torres (Inter Miami)
The defending MLS Cup champions
are back and ready to try and win their
third MLS Cup in five years. Seattle
understandably hasn't made too many
changes to their roster and are a top
team in the Western Conference. They did
acquire 27-year-old Colombian centre-back
Yeimar Gomez Andrade on a TAM deal
which will only help solidify the club's status
as MLS Cup contenders even more.
Sporting KC
2019 SEASON: 10-8-16, 38 points (Eleventh
in the West, did not make playoffs)
KEY ADDITIONS: Alan Pulido (Chivas),
Khiry Shelton (Paderborn), Roberto Puncec
(HNK Rijeka), Winston Reid (West Ham)
DEPARTURES: Adrian Zendejas (Nashville),
Nicolas Hasler (FC Thun), Gedion Zelalem
(NYCFC)
It's been a relatively quiet offseason for
Sporting KC, who did sign some youth
products to MLS contracts but it likely
won't be enough to cause too much
damage in MLS this season. They won't be
a terrible team in 2020, but expectations
shouldn't be too high either.
Vancouver Whitecaps
2019 SEASON: 8-10-16, 34 points (Last in
the West, did not make playoffs)
KEY ADDITIONS: Lucas Cavallini (Puebla),
Leonard Owusu (FC Ashdod), Cristian
Gutierrez (Colo Colo)
DEPARTURES: Doneil Henry (Suwon), Brett
Levis (Valour FC)
The Whitecaps are eager to put last season
behind them and start anew with Canada
international striker Lucas Cavallini. The
signing has definitely brought some much
needed excitement to the club's fan base
after a rough year. They also inked 25-year-
old winger David Milinkovic from Hull City.
The Whitecaps should be an improved team
this season, but by how much is still a big
question.
