SUSPENDED
BY COLON
Former Portland
Timbers striker Brian
Fernandez has been
suspended by his
current club Atletico
Colon for missing
weeks of training.
Before joining the
Superliga Argentina
club, the 25-year old
left MLS after the
Timbers moved to
terminate his contract
over a substance
abuse issue.
EMERSON ROMANCE
Atlanta United midfielder Emerson Hyndman says he is
very excited to see rock group My Chemical Romance
headlining Music Midtown in Atlanta this September. After
a nine-year hiatus, My Chemical Romance have announced
a North American comeback tour for the ages. Beginning
in Detroit on Sept. 9, the tour will run through October and
may be a precursor to the band’s first record since 2010.
HEALTHY SLEEVE
Atlanta United have a new sleeve sponsor, with the club
announcing that Georgia's largest healthcare provider
Piedmont Healthcare will now have a home on the 2018
MLS Cup winners' jersey. They’ll also become the kit
sponsor for Atlanta United 2, the Five Stripes’ reserve team
that competes in the USL Championship.
A BLANK CHECK
Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank advised fellow MLS
owners to invest heavily on their teams to emulate his
club’s success. After debuting as an expansion side in 2017,
United already brought in their first silverware by winning
the MLS Cup in 2018. The club also enjoyed massive
financial success and are currently valued at $500m.
LIP SERVICE
The news of Adam Jahn
signing as an Atlanta
United player didn’t go
down well with many
of the club’s fans. Jahn
infamously put his
index finger to his lips
facing the United crowd
three years ago as he
scored the winning goal
for Columbus Crew
against the Five Stripes.
But Jahn now claims
he was promoting his
friend’s brand “Don’t
Miss, Don’t Matter’’ by
making the gesture. Is
that explanation going
to help the 29-year-old
to get into the good
books of Atlanta United
fans? Probably not!
OFF SIDE TRAPP
Wil Trapp took out a full-page ad
in Sunday's Columbus Dispatch
to bid farewell to Columbus Crew
fans. Trapp's offseason trade from
Columbus Crew SC to Inter Miami
CF was an emotional move for
the 27-year-old midfielder. The
trade meant Trapp's exit from
his hometown club and the only
franchise he'd ever known as a
professional. Trapp grew up in
Columbus, played four seasons
in the US Soccer Development
Academy with Crew SC and
became one of the team's most
beloved players while making
185 first-team appearances from
2013-2019.
HERBERS HANDICAP
Chicago Fire forward Fabian
Herbers has a whole lot of talents,
but maybe indoor golf isn’t one of them. The German
uploaded a clip on Instagram showing him trying out a
swing in front of his Fire teammates. Which ended up in
a terrible miss, but his colleagues didn’t miss out on the
opportunity to have a good laugh.
SILVER
ANNIVERSARY
Ahead of the 25th Major
League Soccer season,

BIGFOOT BALL
Austin FC took another
important towards
becoming a fully
functioning MLS side by
entering into a multi-year
sponsorship with YETI,
an Austin-based outdoor
brand best known for its
iconic coolers, drinkware
and outdoor equipment,
the club announced. YETI
will be the MLS expansion
side’s official jersey
sponsor and newest
Founding Partner.
ANNIVERSARY KITS
As part of the celebration leading up to the league’s
25th season, MLS hosted a special cast of celebrities and
characters to unveil new Adidas kits for each of its 26

James, online gamer Ninja, Houston Texans’ wide receiver
DeAndre Hopkins, YouTube comedian Scooter Magruder

the high-profile celebrities who were part of the event.
AROUND NORTH AMERICA
“I won’t say that the team will score
a thousand goals like he did. But
we worked a lot on ball possession.
Very often, people gave our team the
counterattack tag. I think we need to
improve the possession aspect of our
play. We worked a lot on that, we will
be an intense team from the first to the
90th minute.” – Montreal Impact’s Samuel
Piette provides an insight into Montreal
boss and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s
coaching philosophy.
“So if we keep putting money into
these womens teams, in these woman’s
programs, you’re gonna see them
continue to climb and be better. That’s
what we are trying to push right now
across the board, it’s to keep investing
in women, keep investing in these
federations and so they can put out
a good product on the field.” – U.S.
women’s national team goalkeeper Ashlyn
Harris urges more federations to invest in
women’s soccer to help grow the game
around the world.
“The Niners definitely have some soccer
fans, Joe Staley is a huge Quakes fan
and also just a fan of the game. So, I’m
pulling for the Niners, especially against
the Chiefs.” – San Jose Earthquakes
forward Christopher Wondolowski
explains why he pledged his support to
San Francisco 49ers at the Super Bowl.
