Sites asking for
passwordsPasswords are a pain, we know.
The hassle of inventing them and
the difficulty of remembering
them explains why the most
commonly used passwords are “12345678”
and “password” every single year. But
strong passwords are essential to protect
all the things you have online: if someone
or somebody’s software can guess, say, your Amazon password, they can do serious
damage to your finances. The good news is
that Safari’s AutoFill can create, securely store
and recall very complex passwords so you
get the benefit of strong passwords without
having to come up with or remember them.
In addition to using strong passwords,
you should never re-use passwords. That’s
because websites can and do suffer from
data breaches and people’s usernames and
passwords get leaked – and re-use gives the
bad guys the key to every site you’ve used
that password on. That’s why your iPad never
comes up with the same password twice, and
why it’ll warn you if you use any duplicates.
There’s no point in having good passwords
if you don’t also have good hardware security,
so make sure you protect your device with
Touch ID or Face ID (depending on your device)
and always protect your Apple ID with two-
factor authentication so that even if someone
does get your password, they can’t just access
your Apple account. Carrie Marshall1
