After how many
dates with a
dude do I need
to tell him that
I’m still seeing
other people?
A: Any single guy who’s dating assumes
that if you haven’t yet had ‘the talk’ with a
girl, then they’re not exclusive. Typically,
this convo will sound something like:
‘Want to make it official?’ or ‘I think we’re
ready to DTR’ or ‘Um, will you, like...be
my girlfriend?’ So until one of you utters
some version of these magic words,
you’re in the clear. Also, it might help to
ask yourself what feels right to you. If
you’ve been on more than a few dates
with this guy and things seem to be
heading in a direction that borders on
serious, then it may be a good time to
give him a heads-up. Otherwise, abide by
this golden rule: when would you want
the person you’re dating to tell you? Give
him the same courtesy.
Q: My BF broke up with me on
my birthday, and I was
completely devastated. Now,
weeks later, he’s begging me to
take him back. Should I give
him one more chance?
A: This might be the most definitive
answer we’ve given: no effing way. Any
dude who chooses to dump you on your
B-Day—rather than, at the very least,
doing so a few days before or after—is
seriously cold. His timing proves he
didn’t care that he was ruining your
special once-a-year moment (which you
may now forever associate with this
breakup), and that means he doesn’t
truly care enough about you or your
happiness. Our advice? Blow out the
burning candles of his hope, wish for a
much better man, and move on.

the alcohol and brush you off. We
suggest you force him to talk. Say,
‘We’re getting married and it won’t
always be perfect. We need to be able to
talk about tough stuff that comes up if
we’re going to make it. What you said
hurt me deeply, and I need to know what
you’re feeling. So tell me: what’s really
going on?’
Q: Yellow is hot like the sun
right now. What’s the best way
to wear it IRL?
A: There’s no one-size-fits-all formula—
just go as sunny as your personality.
While it’ll make more of an on-trend
statement to do it in a bright aureolin or
jonquil, a muted topaz or lemon chiffon-
esque hue can also look incredibly pretty
(Alberta Ferretti is a great example). We
love the idea of the black-button detail
suit by D&G, but it’s a fairly brave
decision. Zuhair Murad and Bottega
Veneta’s takes on the hue (a lovely, lacey
top or a chunky turtleneck) are easier to
work in, and equally stylish. n
Shades of yellow, as seen at Alberta Ferretti, Bottega Veneta, Dolce & Gabbana,
and Zuhair Murad
told me he’s only ready to be
friends. I’m a young, single
mom, and I think that turned
him off. Is there any point in
talking to each other further?
A: Only if you actually like the idea of just
being friends. When a guy tells you what
he wants and how he sees you, believe
him. They don’t usually lie about that
stuff. And sure, some dudes just don’t
want to get involved with a single parent,
as unfair as that may be. But there are
so many other men out there—and a lot
of them will want you, kids and all.
Q: My fiancé got drunk one
night and told me that he didn’t
love me anymore. He now
claims that it was the booze and
cold feet talking. Do you think
he was telling the truth?
A: Hmmm...it’s hard to say how serious
this is. Several tequilas in, he may have
blurted out the truth. Or this may be a
very exaggerated version of those cold
feet. Either way, don’t let him blame it on By:
