“5 NON BEAUTY THINGS WITH RIGHT NOW”

WHAT A MONTH IT’S BEEN...

We just concluded the second edition
of the Cosmo Beauty Weekend, and
I’m lotion-ed and potion-ed out—in
the best way! The Cosmo team and I
got to hang out with our favourite
bloggers, readers, and influencers,
and spoil ourselves with all the
amazing products from some of our
favourite, beauty brands (it was lovely
having you with us, #ISAACWellness,
#Pond’s, #O.P.I, #OrganicHarvest,
#VI-John, and #Palmer’s).

movement—and victories like the
right to vote and condemning sexual
harassment—lie in female
friendships. When women come
together to discuss their unique
problems, they often leave with
strength, solutions and solace.
The trick is not to restrict these
interactions to just close friends you’d
go to a toilet with. Get together a
bunch of girls from work to discuss
industry trends over lunch. Or sexism
at the workplace. Or set up a group of
random women to meet each month
to talk about finances, feminism, or
fashion. Heck, even dude issues. The
idea is to share stories and learn from
other women’s experiences. To offer
guidance and effectuate common
goals. But most importantly, to give
each other the security that can only
come from a strong, supportive group
of female friends.

But in the midst of all that
primping and preening, I noticed
something special—that there’s
nothing quite like a shared love to
bring women together. Over the
course of three days, complete
strangers became good friends while
discussing hair heroes and hot, new
nail colours. Previously wary women
confessed to the pressures they feel
to meet society’s standards of beauty,
and bravely revealed their
insecurities about ageing.
Conversation flowed freely, advice
shared, and inhibitions lost. But most
importantly, many left feeling
‘connected’, even if it just had to do
with the relief of knowing they’re not
alone in their worries.
Throughout history, women have
benefited from communication with
other women. Our cave-sisters were
pros at bonding with their kind—
they needed to stick together so they
could protect themselves from
attacks while the cavemen were out
hunting. But they also did it to learn
important life lessons from each
other—like how to raise a baby or
deal with periods. Fast-forward to
thousands of years later, and you’ll
find history loaded with examples of
how sisterhood has served us. In fact,
the origins of the great feminist
