The World of Cross Stitching 73
Quick Challenge
http://www.gathered.how/woxs
1 Stitch the star shape that
will hold the finished stitch
in place. We have used two
colours here so that the steps
show better, but the whole
flower should be stitched
using only one single colour.
2 Bring the needle up
through the centre of the
star shape, then stitch the
flower by wrapping the cotton
around each branch of the star
as you work your way around
it in a clockwise direction.
3 Keep going until the
branches are completely
covered. Remember to keep
your tension even for a
beautiful, professional finish.

How to...
1 Bring the needle up on
the right side of the fabric on
one side of the stitch, and
insert it down through the
same hole leaving a small
loop. Be sure to take your time
to get this just right.
2 Bring the needle back
up, further away at the other
end of the stitch, trapping
the looped thread under the
needle. Insert the needle
through the fabric, close to
the last hole. This’ll tack the
leaf to the fabric without risk
of it getting dragged through
to the wrong side when you
tighten your stitch.
3 Repeat for each leaf,
using the lines on the chart to
indicate the size and direction.
