Life - Woodstock at 50 - 2019

FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS,

the set by the Who (left to right,
John Entwistle, Roger Daltrey,
Keith Moon, Pete Townshend) was
the most highly charged act of the
festival. For one, it was the first time
most had heard a live performance
of the band’s recently released,
highly acclaimed album Tommy. And
then there was a bizarre invasion of
the stage by Yippie activist Abbie
Hoffman. But their predawn set was
sensational, and, fittingly, when the
Who delivered the soaring finale
of Tommy—“See Me, Feel Me”—
the first rays of the morning sun
touched the stage.
