MONEY MISTAKE
The Australian government recently found out the hard way that
you should always pay attention to details, when their latest
A$50 note featured a spelling mistake. The word ‘responsibilty’
appears numerous times in the background of the note, but it
took months for an eagle-eyed citizen to spot it. You see, the
background of the note looks a bit like grass, but is actually
words written over and over again – one of them being the
misspelled one. But looking at the bigger picture, the note is
actually pretty fascinating. The lady on the note is Edith Cowan
- Australia’s first female Member of Parliament – and the words
are from her inaugural speech: “It is a great responsibility to be
the only woman here, and I want to emphasise the necessity
which exists for other women being here.”
GO TWO OCEANS!
The Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town has won gold at the
2019 African Responsible Tourism Awards. This honour is well
deserved because the facility works hard to minimise its
carbon footprint. They have targets in place that help them to
reduce their water and energy consumption and limit the
amount of waste they create. They have installed solar panels
and switched their toilets over to saltwater. They also run many
educational campaigns and recycle more than half their waste.
What an inspiration!
