Creating the background
With the face complete, it‘s time to turn my attention to the back-
ground. In my reference there is a variety of colours present. I felt like I wanted
to have just 1 tone. I isolated the dirty Yellow colour and created a opaque
version using Yellow, Violet and White. I made a mask to protect my work by
holding my work and sheet of paper up to a lamp and tracing around the face.
Using my magnetic board I mask off the face and spray the background colour.
I build it up over a few light layers, then add some White to my mix to simulate
a subtle glow around him.

The tattoo
Finally, I turn my attention to the tattoo. Using Viridian I spray little
dots over it. I do this to add more interest to the texture of the skin. I darken
the shadow areas with Sepia and Blue violet shielding the face with my hand
to prevent overspray destroying my highlights.
