Two TV sets needed to keep up

The Wimbledon
Championship finals, the
British F1 Grand Prix, the
ICC World Cup cricket final
and the Scottish Open all
competed for my TV viewing
recently. With Wifey Dear also
watching, we were channel
hopping constantly. I missed
the start of the Grand Prix
because she wanted to watch
the tennis! Two days of drama
kept me glued to the screen.
The action seen over this
weekend will certainly
go down in the record
books and be recounted
for many years to come.
Watching Simona Halep
massacre Serena Williams
in the women’s final, and
in such a short time too,
was awe-inspiring. No less
so was the epic five-hour,
five-set duel between
Novak Djokovic and
Roger Federer, ending
in a new rules tiebreak
win for the Serbian.

England and New Zealand
ended their final match in
dramatic fashion, with a
15-run draw in the super over,
so England was deemed the

winner as it had scored more
boundaries in the game.
Lewis Hamilton won the
Grand Prix, with team mate
Valtteri Bottas coming second.

The race also had its drama,
with Sebastian Vettel
slamming into the back of
Max Verstappen, denying
him a possible podium place.
The golf in Scotland went to
extra holes. I lost interest when
South Africa’s George Coetzee
lost out in the final round.
I guess it’s back to watching
The Curse of Oak Island!
With spring approaching, the
weather is warming up a bit.
“Don’t get too excited, Townie.
We’ve been fooled before,”
said neighbour Jan over
morning coffee on my stoep.
With full dams, an
unusually mild winter, sheds
full of bales, and no snow on
our mountains, it seems that
climate change has descended
on us. Let’s hope it rains
when it’s supposed to; we
need a good season for a
change! – Derek Christopher
