Mostresidents of the uppermostMekong Valley are Tibetan andthe people of the river basin fallinto two broad culturalgroupings.The hill peoples speak languagesbelonging to five differentlanguage families:Tibeto-Burman, Tai, Hmong-Mien,Austronesian and Mon-Khmer.
