Oriental Pratincole
Binomial Name: Glareola maldivarum
The Oriental Pratincole is a rare resident shorebird of Bangladesh. They are found on theriver banks and coasts of Chittagong, Khulna, and Sylhet. They roam in flocks on the banks
of rivers, swamps, and muddy parts of water or paddy fields. Standing on the ground,running, or flying, they collect and eat prey such as flying insects, moths, dung beetles,
etc. These birds are more active at dawn and dusk. They sit with their bellies on the hotshore soil on sunny days. Their breeding season is from April to June, during which they
make nests in the bright soil of deserted grasslands and lay eggs.
