Indian Pond Heron
Binomial Name: Ardeola grayii
The Indian Pond Heron is a common resident aquatic bird of Bangladesh. Reservoirs,extensive marsh, swampland, canals, rivers, plantations, and mangrove forests can be
found anywhere in the country. It usually roams alone or in isolated groups. They hunt
suddenly by standing or strolling in shallow water. Their food list includes fish, aquaticinsects, shrimp, amphibians, and vegetables. From January to August, nests are formed in
colonies with other herons in large trees or bamboo during the breeding season.
