Gray-headed Woodpecker
Binomial Name: Picus canus
The Gray-headed Woodpecker is the commonresident bird of Bangladesh. Chittagong, Dhaka,
Khulna, and Sylhet have deciduous andmangrove forests
that can be seenalone or in pairs.
They look for food bysticking their beaks in the mounds or
the bark of trees. Their diet list includes
ants, termites, larvae, pupae, fruit, and flowerhoney. They are more active just before and
just after daybreak. During the breedingseason from May to June, holes are
made in the trunks of the trees to
make nests and lay eggs.
