Common Kingfisher
Binomial Name: Alcedo atthis
This small fishing bird is often seen in the rivers and canals of the Sundarban. The birdroams not only in the Sundarban but in all types of water bodies in all parts of Bangladesh.
The Common Kingfisher is a common resident bird of Bangladesh. They usually roam aloneor in pairs in all types of water bodies. They sit on branches, bamboo, or poles just above
the water and suddenly jump into the water to catch prey. Although their favorite diet issmall fish, there is no objection to frog cubs and aquatic insects.
