Pretty Crate
By Chris Dark
I love being able to create my own embellishments! Once you have a mould it’s easy, as
there are many finishes you can apply to make each one different from the next. This means
a mould is a very good investment. I used white air-dry clay which I left to dry overnight. I
would normally lightly sand to remove cracks or uneveness, but this time I was creating a
shabby chic effect with white antiquing cream so therefore I wanted it to sit in the cracks
and crevices. The clay embellishments are applied with heavy matte gel which helps flatten
out uneveness underneath, and once dry everything is painted with acrylics and coated in
antiquing cream. This little crate looks perfect with bottles of paint inside.
