Colored Pencil Demonstration 125ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tracy Frein is an international award-winning artist and creator of “drawing by
subtraction,” his unique and proprietary drawing technique using colored pencil.
He spends his time teaching colored pencil and drawing classes at Lillstreet Art
Center in Chicago, and conducting “Drawing by Subtraction®: Creating Narrative
Portraits” workshops to art groups across the country.
He volunteers his time and resources to help the mentally disabled artist
at Project Onward in Chicago. Project Onward supports the professional
development of artists with exceptional talents and challenges, ranging from
autism to mental illness.
He has been a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America since 2002
and has served as president, exhibition director and treasurer for the Chicago
area chapter.
