Halima Washington-Dixon, originally from California, holds
a BA in visual arts and art history from Occidental College in
Los Angeles and an MFA in painting and drawing from the
Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Working mostly from her home studio in Suff olk,
England, she occasionally works in plein air in the beautiful
countryside near her home. She paints almost every day, is
always creating and has been painting professionally since- Washington-Dixon’s art is exhibited in The Cotswolds
by the John Noott Galleries, who also show her work every
spring at the Aff ordable Art Fair in Battersea Park, London.
Her smaller works can also be found at The Morningside
Gallery, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Washington-Dixon bases her paintings on her continued
search for comfort, nostalgia and a sense of place. Though
she paints many subjects, in recent years she has been

Peonies, Pears & Peacocks, oil on cradled panel, 36 x 36" (91 x 91 cm)
Every year I wait impatiently for peonies to arrive in the town market. I was recently working on a series of very large still lifes and wanted
something bright and fun. I had been holding on to a beautiful turquoise fabric and thought it fi t perfectly with the peonies. The pears tie it
all together, mirroring the lime green in the foliage and the yellow centre of the fl owers. I kept the pears loose and gestural, as the focus is
the peonies. I painted the fabric last, adjusting the hue of the turquoise to best complement the overall piece.
