he ongoing close connection of
Saturn, the south lunar node, and
Pluto clarifies the news picture in
one way, but complicates it in another.
The clarification comes from the fact that
Saturn-Pluto combinations have close
to the worst reputation among the 45
possible pairings of the Sun, Moon, and
planets Mercury through Pluto. When
we include the nodes, which tend to
be ignored or put way down the list of
things to consider in Western astrology,
probably any conjunction of a malefic
planet with the South Node would be
dropped way to the bottom of the list
of things to consider. However, Mars
and the South Node can often be seen to
coincide with violence of some kind, a
good example of which can be seen in the
chart for 9/11. Where Saturn is concerned,
perhaps the best way to describe its effect
in combination with the nodes is “things
fall apart,” whether through violence or
incompetence. Which is to say that Mars’
impact when involved with the nodes
comes through drastic direct action, while
Saturn’s impact is slower and deeper, yet
more pervasive. Mars seems to light its
own fuse most of the time, while Saturn’s
fuse is more often lit by aspects from
either the Sun or Mars.
These are not the only combinations
with the nodes we need to be aware of,
and in fact people who practice mundane
astrology, the astrology of world events,
should always keep an eye on aspects
and patterns that include the lunar nodes.
