More Than a Sun Sign
Libra is more than a Sun sign, of
course, so let’s consider how it works
when it affects one of the central points
of a birth chart: the Sun, Ascendant, and
Moon.
Sun in Libra
So far there have been only two female
Prime Ministers in Great Britain: Margaret
Thatcher and Theresa May, and both
have the Sun in Libra. Thatcher, born on
October 13, 1925, at 9:00 a.m. GMT in
Grantham, England, was Prime Minister
from 1979 until 1990, and was commonly
known as the Iron Lady, underlining what
was said above about the Cardinal quality
of this sign. Mrs. Thatcher’s Mercury, the
planet of her mind, and Mars, the planet of
her drive and determination, are in Libra.
As leader of the Conservative Party and
Prime Minister, she was not afraid to stand
up for her beliefs and make others bend to
her will when she was putting those beliefs
into action.
Theresa May, born October 1, 1956,
in Eastbourne, England, time unknown,
was appointed as leader of the majority
Conservative Party, and thus Prime
Minister, on July 13, 2016, at 6:02 p.m.
She succeeded David Cameron, who had
resigned as Prime Minister due to the
unexpected loss of a referendum vote
on whether the United Kingdom should
exit from membership in the European
Union (a process commonly known as
“Brexit”).
The event chart drawn for the
moment when Theresa May stepped
out of Buckingham Palace after Queen
Elizabeth formally asked her to form a
new government shows the Midheaven
at 7 Libra. The 10th house in the chart
for a country represents the leader of
that country, such as a president or prime
minister. May’s Sun at 8 Libra is closely
conjunct the Midheaven, the 10th-house
cusp, of the chart that marks her rise to
power.
After she assumed the leadership
role, May faced numerous obstacles in
her quest to deliver Brexit. She was
accused by her critics of being unable to
land a solid deal for England during the
“divorce” negotiations between Britain
and the European Union. After more
than two years of struggling with the
problem, she addressed Parliament on
December 10, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. GMT to
announce postponement of a key vote on
her plan to bring about Brexit, knowing
that she would lose it. Two days later,
on December 12, at least 48 members
of Parliament formally demanded a
no-confidence vote be held, something
that would have ended her tenure as
Prime Minister. Venus, the ruler of her
Sun sign, was in Scorpio on both days,
indicating her fierce determination to
succeed in her battle to retain her job.
The vote was taken that night, and
it was declared that a majority of the
Conservative Party had expressed support
for her, and she could keep her job, at least
for the next year. If she had lost, then a new
Prime Minister would have been chosen at
that point. However, though Libras are
fighters, and keep going until the end of
the race, no matter how many hurdles they
encounter, the truth is that when it is time
to quit, it is time to quit. In the end Theresa
May did quit, announcing her resignation
as Conservative Party leader at 10:04 a.m.
BST, May 24, 2019, in London, to take
effect on June 7, 2019, and that she would
stay in office as Prime Minister until a new
Conservative Party leader was chosen.
