zant of them, aware that at any moment the
ax of reality might cut through our aspirations.
We should probably remind ourselves that
Saturn brings the gift of form that Jupiter in
Sagittarius should welcome, however much
the latter might prefer expansive inspiration.
When Jupiter moves from Sagittarius into
Capricorn, our creative venturing takes us
into form – as well it should, in order to have
a lasting effect in our lives. An additional
question arises, though: Does the fact that the
social planets move through dignities and the
personal ones move through detriments sug-
gest that social matters will dominate personal
ones? That seems a possibility, but another
is that the collective or social world might
take energy or focus away from those indi-
vidual drives that social forms exist to serve
- instead, of course, of the other way around.
The present period provides, at the very least,
plenty of opportunities to examine the relation
in our lives between personal satisfactions and
social or collective patterns.
As a mere astrological columnist, yours
truly does not intend to offer definitive
answers to the questions raised in previous
paragraphs. Nor does he intend to say any-
thing definite about a conclusion reached
by some authors he has read on the subject:
that though in theory, social forms exist
to enhance or otherwise encourage or fur-
ther individual initiative, we too often find
that they impinge on individual initiative in
unpleasant and unnecessary ways. Whether
or not current situations mirror or embody
more general truths, the current astrological
situation seems likely to raise interesting
questions about the relationship between the
creative individual and the social structures
and hierarchies that surround us all.
The placement of Venus, Mars, and the
Sun in signs deemed not so congenial to
their expression suggests a curtailing of the
personal energies that make up the social
order, though this may not have any direct or
necessary connection to surrounding social
forms. It arises, rather, from the nature of
energy patterns apparently integral to our
growth: we go through the Scorpio period of
any planet in order to find inner riches and
hidden resources. And this: detriment and
fall positions suggest a need to bring together
opposites, to develop a deeper appreciation
of how we relate to others and/or create an
aesthetic responsiveness (Venus), and how
we assert ourselves cleanly and forcefully
while remaining cognizant of the needs and
desires of others (Mars, particularly in Libra).
On the other hand, the realm of the individual
can take on more depth even if it does not
always find a ready outlet in behavior, at least
not at first.
Venus, Mercury, Uranus
Transiting Venus moves through
Scorpio between October 8 and
November 1, and Mercury does so
between October 3 and December 9.
In doing so, these planets make chal-
lenging aspects to natal Uranus for
people with that planet in Fixed signs.
Transiting Venus and Mercury oppose
natal Uranus in Taurus for those
born: 6/1934-10/1934, 4/1935-8/1941,
10/1941-5/1942. Transiting Venus
and Mercury square natal Uranus in
Leo for those born: 8/1955-1/1956,
6/1956-10/1961, 1/1962-8/1962.
Transiting Venus and Mercury con-
join Uranus in Scorpio for those
born: 11/1974-4/1975, 9/1975-2/1981,
3/1981-11/1981. Transiting Venus
and Mercury square natal Uranus
in Aquarius for those born: 4/1995-
6/1995, 1/1996-3/2007; 9-12/2003.
