For the build, Pennefather commissioned the
same construction company (ZieglerBuild) that
worked on Spell’s head office and flagship
retail space, forming a visual harmony between
the business and her family abode. “I loved
what they created with our boutique and HQ
so we mirrored that, rather than coming up with
a completely different theme,” says Pennefather.
The designer also sought inspiration from
her recent travels to America’s southwest
region. “Dougall and I went on a USA road trip
through Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico
and we loved what we saw along the way –
the round edges and rustic wood, and earthy
tones with pops of tan, pink and peach. It also
inspired our love for cacti.” This international
influence translated into high ceilings, barn
doors and large reclaimed timber beams, set
against blanched walls and curved render.
“We wanted a blank canvas that’s easy to fill
with all our family photos, décor and all the
cute art that our boys create at school,”
explains Pennefather. >
