WHOEVER SAID
“BIGGER IS BETTER”
CLEARLY NEVER OWNED
A  MINI BAG

IT’S A UNIVERSALLY ACKNOWLEDGED
truth that everything is better in miniature. No
surprise, then, that fashion is in the midst of
a full-blown love affair with micro handbags.
Jacquemus started the trend with its only-fits-
a-credit-card-and-lipstick handbags a couple
of seasons ago, but ramped it up (or down)
tenfold with thimble-sized iterations at AW19.
That same season, we saw outrageously cute
numbers from Brandon Maxwell, Tibi and Jil
Sander. The Daily Edited soon followed suit,
as did culty in-the-know brands such as
Carolina Santo Domingo.
Practical? Not exactly. But the bags are
adorable — and make a great alternative to
a kitsch phone case. They’re also somewhat
philosophical – we like to think of them as an
invitation to declutter. Technology gave us
cardless cash, keypads replace house keys
and phones cater to our every need. An
oversized tote brimming with half the contents
of your home is starting to feel a little dated.
If you’re still feeling anxious at the thought
of travelling so light, we recommend pairing
a pop-of-colour mini bag with a pair of cargo
trousers. The contrast looks incredibly chic
with the added upside of big baggy pockets
for your valuables. Genius. E
