Four Wheeler – September 2019

FIRING ORDER

O

ne of the great things about my
job is that I get to meet a lot of
wheelers, and one of the things I
like to hear about is why wheel-
ers are drawn to certain 4x4s.
I met a gent at the 2019 Easter Jeep Safari
who told me he has only owned Jeep 4x4s.
Wouldn’t own any other brand. Period. Over
the years I’ve heard wheelers say the same
about Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Ram, Toyota,
Nissan, and others.
If someone looked at the 4x4s I’ve owned,
I think it would be hard to discern my favor-
ite brand. Pictured here you can see some
of the 4x4s I’ve held the titles to. It started
with the K5 Blazer, and over the years I’ve
had a couple Scouts, a Tracker, an F-150, a
Cherokee, a Bronco, and a Wrangler. I haven’t
owned too many 4x4s in my 55 years on
this planet because I tend to drive ’em until
they’ve rotted away.
So, back to the Easter Jeep Safari. It
seemed like everywhere I looked around
Moab, whether I was restocking at City
Market, consuming a breakfast burrito at
Gilberto’s, or walking the main street, I saw

Jeep-branded clothing and accessories.
Guess it makes sense considering the event
has Jeep as its middle name. However, brand
loyalty varies, and I also saw folks proudly
wearing clothing emblazoned with other 4x
manufacturers.
What is your favorite 4x4 brand or model
and why? Or do you just drive and wheel what-
ever? Please email the address below and tell
me about your preference. I’d love to hear your
thoughts. And please include a high-res photo
of your rig, too!
