The Triumph was replaced by a very rare 1989 BMW M6 CSi
coupe. It is one of only 52 cars to be built by BMW in the last
year of production, and only 20 were built right-hand drive.
The car is what is known as a high liner model with all the
bumpers, mirrors painted and having engine management
changes which have the car producing 292 BHP.
In the early 2000s Bert started getting hooked on hot rods and
while in the States visiting a daughter who lives there, came across a
1956 Buick Century with a 1973 455ci and Turbo 400 transplant. This
was the start of several cars to follow with the most interesting one
being Jeff Gordon’s 1998 NASCAR. Bert raced the car at a couple of
the Leadfoot Festivals before it was sold to a collector back in the US.
Sharing garage space with the deuce roadster featured here and
the BMW is an immaculate 1948 Pontiac Torpedo Convertible with
a straight eight flathead. The Pontiac is used for events such as the
Art Deco week in Napier and other vintage car events while the
BMW coupe is for any speed events and long distance touring.
