THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER 33 JULY 31, 2019

Hollywood Night
Quentin Tarantino’s (4)
ninth film — a revisionist
love letter to 1969 L.A.
— received a hometown
reception in classic
Hollywood style, complete
with a faux studio sound-
stage and retro-costumed
staffers. And then there
were the movie stars:
Brad Pitt (1), Leonardo
DiCaprio (3) and Margot
Robbie (2) arrived to
deafening screams from
Hollywood Boulevard.
For his part, Tarantino
appeared press shy,
though Sony chief To m
Rothman (4) was keen
to talk about his auteur:
“There’s a lot of heart in
the film, and he has a lot
of heart.” — CHRIS GARDNER

Fading to Black
Shortly before the seventh
season of Orange Is the
New Black, Netflix’s Te d
Sarandos (10) ended
the company’s quarterly
earnings call by thanking
Jenji Kohan (9) “for her
incredible vision.” Of the
streaming giant’s 151 mil-
lion paid subscribers,
105 million have watched
at least one episode of
Orange, Netflix claims —
and hundreds of those
viewers lined up outside
Lincoln Center for its final
premiere. Taking the stage
to introduce Kohan, exec
Cindy Holland summed
up the journey by saying:
“Season one, episode
one was called ‘I Wasn’t
Ready.’ I realize now that I,
too, am not entirely ready.
It’s really hard to say
goodbye.” — JACKIE STRAUSE

Latinx Factor
“There was no forcing or
checking the box of diver-
sity if you represent Dora
and her natural culture,”
Eva Longoria (13) told
THR of the film’s all-Latinx
cast at the Regal Cinemas
debut of Dora and the
Lost City of Gold. Director
James Bobin (16) added
that casting Latinx actors
for Paramount’s live-action
film was a must. Isabela
Moner (14), who plays the
beloved Nickelodeon char-
acter, said that the film also
shows a different, “super
girly” side of bravery.
