Jewish diarist Anne Frank was captured in Amsterdam along with her family in 1944. Anne and her family
were given away by an unknown informant and were arrested along with the two Christians who helped
shelter them.
Three civil rights activists were found dead at a dam near Philadelphia, Mississippi, in 1964. It emerged
that Michael Schwerner, 24, Andrew Goodman, 20, and James Chaney, 22, were attacked and killed by
the Ku Klux Klan.
The Queen Mother celebrated her 100th birthday in 2000. She was the first member of the royal family to
reach her centenary.
